Frances is a London-based designer and consultant specialising in hand-knotted, woven, and printed rugs. Her work focuses on harnessing social and environmental responsibility through craft exchange, embracing the beauty of imperfection that comes with handmade craftsmanship. With over a decade of industry experience, she has developed a unique balance of technical expertise, artistry, execution, and empathy.

Seeking a deeper understanding of the people and processes behind her craft, Frances spent time in Nepal and India, working closely with artisans to experience production through their lens. Revealing not only the skill and dedication woven into each rug but also the untold stories of the makers themselves. During her travels, she became acutely aware of the male gaze and the silencing of women. Drawn to amplify female voices, she connected with women-led organisations and visited smaller mills run by women. The determination of these women to drive social change was palpable, and through listening and exchanging stories, Frances recognised the nuanced similarities in experiences that transcend borders.

These encounters illuminated the humanness behind every knot and deepened her commitment to social responsibility. They reinforced the importance of supporting women-led social exchange and highlighted the resilience and integrity of the many hands that bring her designs to life. Today, Frances’ work seeks to bridge the gap between design, human connection, and craftsmanship - celebrating not only the rugs themselves but also the people and stories they carry.
